The Challenge
With rising energy costs and heightened environmental awareness, Glasgow Caledonian University needed to monitor and reduce their buildings energy consumption.
RE Dew has been working in close partnership with the University to implement a ‘green’ building strategy. This would allow them to comply with current energy conservation regulations, optimize environmental performance as well as identify and achieve savings in energy bills.
The University currently uses a Trend Building Management System using the latest Ethernet technologies to control all HVAC systems throughout the University. In all, there are over 200 controllers.
In order to ensure optimum operating efficiency and cut energy costs, Glasgow Caledonian University needed to appoint an organisation to carry out the essential maintenance that all their systems require on a regular basis.

The Solution
RE Dew were selected to provide a tailored programme and maintenance support service to ensure that the installed systems operate at an optimum level. Over a three year term contract, this support includes access to the latest services form RE Dew’s IQ Assured Bureau Service. This is part of their planned preventative maintenance programme to enable the continual operation of their facility and to optimize environmental performance. In particular, our solution includes:

24-hour dedicated bureau service and centralised logging of all calls
• 24-hour emergency remote dial up response
• 24-hour emergency on-site response (to dispatch an engineer)
• Remote alarm monitoring, which allows the University to react quickly, whether it be
adjusting temperatures or sending out an engineer
basewide supervisory terminal.

The Benefits
As a result of RE Dew’s comprehensive support package, overall efficiency has been improved.
The client is now able to guarantee the continual operation of their facility and can react to any issues as they happen.
The benefit of providing such a comprehensive support package is a safe and comfortable environment for both students and staff as well as allowing the client the ability to monitor and implement energy cost savings in the future, optimizing overall building health.
